Hey Guys! It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since last week’s Friday Round-Up. I feel like I haven’t done anything meaningful this week, but maybe I’m just waiting until next Saturday and our holiday!
It’s been 2 years since we last went on a holiday of more than 3 days, so I’m really looking forward to just spending time on the beach and by the pool with my family. Unplugging, ignoring emails, eating LOADS of ice cream and soaking up the Vitamin D!
I’ve been to both Clubbercise and Zumba this week, and they helped somewhat in easing up my work-related anxiety. I’m so unhappy at work at the moment, so I’ve put in a flexible working request and if that doesn’t pan out, I guess I’ll move onto plan B.
I wore my fancy new Marks and Spencer tights and still love them! They are thick without being hot, have a great pattern and a drawstring – 10/10!
It’s been a great week in terms of both fitness and food this week, with several social events lined up for May, June and July I’ve been really focusing on making good decisions! Today I thought I would share this week’s 3 F’s – Food, Fitness and Fun!
We had a bank holiday in the UK on Monday (public holiday) and normally I would treat that type of day as a treat day, or just relax my diet, but not this time baby! I’ve been enjoying a colourful diet full of fruit and vegetables, lean protein sources and the occasional sweet treat to keep me sane!
I made an epic vegetable satay stir0fry with carrot and courgette noodles, it was so good!
Even at the weekend, I tried to make my “cheat meal” pizza a little healthier, by using a smaller portion of Boursin than I normally would (sob!) and adding some extra veggies to my pizza topping! I’ll be sharing my recipe this weekend!
Fitness This week I’ve tried to stay consistent with my exercise and have done:
45 minutes of cardio and toning (read: I danced around my living room to the Top 40 and then did Davina’s Arms and Abs workouts)
A 40 minute workout on Sunday (Beach Babes arms and bum and some kettlebell exercises)
A 5km run on Wednesday along the canal
Zumba last night
Fun The weather has seriously picked up since last week, when we had snow, hail storms, rain & wind. These past couple of days it has been much warmer and sunnier. We’ve been heading to the local park after work to play on the swings and run around, I’m teaching the toddler how to roll down hills! I’m also planning the toddler’s 3rd birthday party, including a bouncy castle and a treasure hunt!
I hope your week has been good too, what have you done in terms of the 3 F’s – Food, Fitness and Fun?
So, I missed my Friday Round-Up last week, sorry! Life is hectic right now with a flurry of Spring birthday parties (mainly 3 year olds) ups and downs at work and trying to get more involved in my local community, so I haven’t blogged in a while!
I’ve just done a 7km run so thought I’d share this week’s exercise with you all!
30th March = 5km
31st March = Zumba
2nd April = Some at – home weights with 2kg dumbbells and 4kg kettlebell
4th April = Zumba
5th April = TIU Beach Babe’s arms and 1/2 legs (about 20 mins)
6th April = 7km
So much more exercise than I’ve been doing the past few months, and I’ve signed up for the We Love Manchester 10k in July and I’d really like to do a 54min 10k or quicker, so I’m working on stamina and strength whilst also having dun with Zumba.
2016 will be the year my New Years fitness regime started in April! But as they say, you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!
I feel like I’ve been stuck in a rut (physically and mentally) for the past few months, and think it might be time for a big change. I’m thinking about 1) a new job or 2) some major interior renovations at home (ideally we’d like to move but our current house needs some major work to get it ready for the market).
And whilst these are longer-term changes, I’m starting to make some smaller changes now that I hope to help me get out of this little rut.
Toddler time = no-tech time
I try not to use my phone or tablet whilst I’m playing with the toddler, as I work full time so the hours/days we have together are precious. I’m also going to start limiting our TV time and do more crafting at home.
The weather in the UK (specifically North Yorkshire) has been rubbish.* We’ve had rain for weeks, cold temperatures and wind. It’s now looking like it will be a bit clearer for the next few days, so I’m going to make the most of it by getting out and about on walks and adventures!
*UK weather isn’t really extreme, so apologies to everyone who really suffers from bad weather!
Cut back on caffeine – the number of cups of coffee I drink whilst at work has been slowly rising and I can feel it making me anxious and jittery. I’m going to buy a high quality decaff alternative and some mint tea so I can switch up the hot drinks I have at work, reducing my caffeine intake.
This week I’ve managed three workouts so far (2 x Zumba sessions and 1 x lunchtime run) and whilst I don’t have any specific workouts planned for the weekend, its looking like its going to be very active with the toddler!
Look at the disco lights that we have on during Zumba…Such fun!
This week a friend and I had girl’s night in with a healthy spread (just don’t tell anyone about the bottle of prosecco)!
Also – Joey the dog is my friend’s and he was super interested in the prosciutto-wrapped vegetables!
As mentioned, I’m trying to get back into running at work again, so I’m making sure that I have all of my gear with me in the office so there’s no excuse!
Also, this morning I weighed in at 160lb. This may not be fast weight loss but it’s achievable long-term #BOOM
Finally, I’m feeling back into a bit of a routine when it comes to regular exercise after the last few weeks of being plagued by a bad back, so I thought I’d share some of my latest workouts with you…
Saturday afternoon – 3km run – I had to fit this in whilst the toddler was napping and before the hubby went to watch football, so I only had 20 minutes. Having not run in what seems like forever, I did a slow 3.1km (18 mins) around town. It felt good to just pop my headphones in, put on some country music and go!
Monday evening HIIT and stretch – I did the 15 minute HIIT cardio section of Davina McCall’s 15 Minute Fit dvd which went really quickly but definitely got my heart rate up. Then i did the stretch section which went DEEP!
Wednesday evening HIIT, arms and stretch – The same as Monday, but this time I added the Arms section which was killer! I used 2kg dumbbells and my arms were screaming by the end, in a really good way!
Tonight I’ll be at Zumba – there aren’t enough words to describe my love of Zumba!
So there we go, nothing too extreme whilst I ease myself back into regular exercise. What’s been your favourite workout this week?
I’ve been down in the dumps for the past couple of weeks, and for someone who’s a glass half full kinda gal, it affected my whole attitude.
Work was the primary factor behind my depression, so I’ve made the conscious decision to just keep my head down and crack on 9-5, and then really make the most out of the rest of life.
I went to Zumba last week after having to miss last week for a works dinner, and my love of the exercise class only continues to grow. I’m somewhat of a teacher’s pet and even got to lead a couple of the routines last night! My favourite routine is to Jason Derulo “Want To Want Me” and I will blow my own trumpet and tell you I’m ace at it!
Here’s a post-Zumba smug face…
After my 10k in Salford on Sunday I’ve kept the exercise momentum up with a 5km run along the canal, a quick gym lifting session and a 4.5km treadmill run during the week.
I even took this selfie in the gym and think my arms are looking OK and my face is looking slimmer…
