Friday Round-Up: 200 posts

This week I hit 200 posts on this little old blog, so I’m continuing the theme of last week’s round up of being grateful to everyone whose been following me for a while and the newbies!

I’m celebrating with  wine (of course) and curry. I’ve got chicken tikka, alloo gobi and a paratha.

We’ve also booked s family holiday to Ibiza in September! Whilst I don’t like the ‘bikini body’ philosophy  (did you see the Protein World fiasco) but a holiday when you spend 80% of the time in a swimsuit is good motivation to stick to the healthy eating and exercise!

I’ve done zumba twice this week and did a 3km run one lunch time. I’ll go for another run tomorrow too.

Friday Round-Up: Eats of the Week

Not much has happened this week, so I thought I would share some eats of the week, as I’ve actually remembered to take some pictures!

You’ll notice that the predominant image is Gin! I enjoyed a glass of Boodles gin with some FeverTree Sicillian Lemonade and Low-Calorie tonic water, yum!

I made turkey fajitas this week which for me included turkey, shredded carrot and iceberg lettuce, charred sweetcorn and cheddar cheese, topped off with sriracha sauce and hot hot hot sweet chilli sauce.

Last Sunday I had pea and pancetta pasta from Tesco’s Finest Range, served with some gnocci, sugar snappeas and pesto. YUM!

I also had a bit of a selection last Friday of pulled pork nachos with roasted gnocci and sugar snap peas, another delicious meal.

I’m still at 161lb this week which I’m absolutely fine with as I’m feeling hella’ bloated and haven’t made as many healthy decision this week as I should have. I am still off the chocolate though (4 weeks and counting)!!

Friday Round-Up – Feeling Grateful, and Cauliflower Rice.

Happy Friday Everyone!

I’m feeling very grateful at the moment, grateful for my family and friends, for being in steady employment (and the recent raise, whoop!), for owning my own home and for my hubby and toddler especially! I’m also grateful for everyone who had liked a post on this blog or started following my posts. I’m definitely not the best example of a healthy lifestyle blog, as I fall off the wagon more times than not, but I hope that I represent a realistic account of what so many people go through when trying to get and stay fit/healthy/lose excess weight…

Anyway, enough of all that emotional stuff, here’s what I’ve been up to this week…
I had a very rare girls night out on Saturday with a meal at pizza Express (yum) and some prosecco/gin. I was very sensible and mixed my alcohol with water every other glass, and I think I danced off a lot of the booze! Apart from the dancing, I wasn’t all that active, so I squeezed in a 1 mile run on Monday, between putting the toddler to bed and then doing the ‘big’ food shop. Not much but a mile is a mile!

Zumba was my other workout so far this week, and I’ll try to squeeze in some Davin HIIT and another short run this weekend hopefully.

I’ve tried to stick to healthy eating for the most part this week, so I’ve been having balanced meals and lots of fruit for snacks. As the title of the post alludes to, I’m really digging cauliflower rice at the moment! This week I had cauliflower rice with garlic chili, baby spinach, smoked bacon and topped with an egg – so tasty!

It seems to be paying off as I’m down another 1lb this week to 161lb, wahoo!

Friday Round-Up: I didn’t stay dry for long!

I had planned on completing Dry January again this year, after staying sober all January in 2015. However, thanks to a crappy day at work, I cracked on the 11th and had a gin and tonic, then again on the 12th and 13th.

My lack of restraint combined with pulled muscles in my back and an apparent obsession with chocolate, my January health kick didn’t get off to the best of starts.

So as I haven’t been able to give up alcohol, I’ve decided to start Lent early and will be embarking on a chocolate ban. I started my ban on Monday 18th and it will run throughout February and most of March to Easter Sunday on the 27th. Although its only been 5 days, I haven’t been tempted too much to, and have found that my raging sweet tooth in general has calmed down.

In another attempt to stay accountable, I’ve also started tracking my food and exercise through My Fitness Pal again (sarahbcollett) to help bring my portion sizes back under control.

Since my last weigh-in, I’ve gained a pound and then lost 2, so I’m down 1lb total at 162lb.

Last night was my first time doing any strenuous exercise in weeks as well with a Zumba class. Although my back felt a little bit stiff and my stamina had declined, it felt great to be back in class and working out.

I’ve registered for the Salford 10k in September and will try and get one booked in for the summer to give me something to aim towards.

Does anyone else need a goal or challenge to help motivate them? Or does anyone else feel like their New Year’s health kick will be starting in February rather than January?

163lb

That was the number on the scale this morning, and that’s OK.

3lb heavier than I was the Monday before Christmas, but with a whole lot of memories to show for it.

I didn’t stick to my plan to be active as I had hoped I would, but with so many friends and family visits, I’m glad that I spent my time with them, rather than slogging it out at the gym or going running.

I also ate rather mindlessly, and am guilty of saying “I’ll start again in the New Year” rather than taking responsibility for my eating then and there. A few bottles of prosecco and Gin & Tonics might also have been consumed!

One of the reasons why I don’t feel too bad about this weight gain and my behavior over the past two weeks is because of this quote…

“What matters isn’t what you eat between Christmas and New Year, what matters is what you eat between New Year and Christmas”

Next year, I won’t be worried about eating more and moving less during the festive period, as I’ll have committed to a consistently healthy approach to eating and exercise throughout the rest of the year!

Staying Accountable

Last week I set myself some exercise goals and I stuck to them! I wanted to exercise 3 times, and I did.

On Monday I did the Beach babes Tone It Up arms workout using candlesticks as make-do dumbbells.

On Wednesday I ran a little over 4km – the first time running in over a month but it felt so good to be out on the road again!

On Thursday I attended the last Zumba before Christmas, sob! We cooled-down to Christmas songs, it was very festive!

This week I’m going to try and get in three sweat sessions again. I ran last night (just over 5km), and want to fit in some at-home body weight exercises on Tuesday and hopefully an early run on Wednesday or Christmas Eve.

I’ve also been trying to limit the amount of Christmas food I’m eating before the holidays even start, so I’m going to try and plan some meals between Christmas and New Year so that I have something healthy on stand-by.

My biggest indulgence at this time of year is alcohol. Look out for my Christmas Cocktail recipe later this week! The prosecco will be popping, the champagne fizzing and the gin doing whatever gin does!

I love all of the vegetables that are in season at this time of the year, and my love of eggs is not abating one bit!

Weight Update
I weighed on Monday morning at 160lb. It’s a higher number than I’d like, but I know why I’m there and not in the 150s. My weight goal is that I am no heavier than 160lb on Monday 4th January. To succeed. I’m going to keep my activity levels as high as possible and make sure that I’m filling up on said veggies above, and not gorging on too many chocolates. Wish me luck!

Friday Round Up – What A Good Week!

Cheers to the freakin’ weekend, I’ll drink to that, yeah yeah!

I’ve seen a few posts on Tumblr recently that say you should be living life so that you enjoy everyday, not just looking forward to the weekend, and this week felt like that!

We’ve been looking for a new house and think we have found the one, we’ll be putting in an offer today! Hopefully we’ll get a bit more interest in our house to sell as well.

I went to Zumba again last night and really enjoyed it. I used to dance a lot but the opportunities to boogie are few and far between now I’m a grown up, so getting to let loose for an hour and burn calories has me feeling awesome!

I’ve also had a really good eating week, not depriving myself of anything but also not gorging or overeating when I perhaps would have before.

In terms of weight loss, the week has definitely paid off as I seem to have lost my water weight and the couple of pounds I put on during the last few weeks.
Weight: 156lb whoop whoop.
