Goodbye and good riddance 2016! It’s been an *interesting* year and I can’t say I’ll be sorry to see the end of it!
That title sounds ruder than I anticipated, and this post in no way relates to erectile functioning:-)
Let’s be honest, my exercise schedule has taken a nosedive over the past few weeks and my eating has turned into Christmas eating a few days too early.
We’ve had severe flooding (for us) in the North of England and not only has that displaced many people from their homes and affected business, it also means that I haven’t been able to run on my lunch hour, as I have no way to get dry in our new offices. What a bummer!
My sole source of exercise has been my weekly Zumba class, but that’s it. nothing else, zilch.
I’ve also fallen into the vending machine trap, eating a chocolate bar each day for the past couple of weeks. I’ve managed to break that cycle today, and will try to stick to fruit snacks at work for the next few day before the office closes for Christmas.
I don’t want to get to January and think that I’ve lost all of my progress, so I’ll be getting back on my exercise schedule this week, and have set a goal of exercising at least 3 times each week even over Christmas and New Year.
I’m not going to make any such goals about eating over the festive period. I love holiday food and I love a glass of wine or gin & tonic. I’ll try to make sure that I don’t eat mindlessly, and will be keeping a stock of fresh whole foods in the house so that I always have the option of something nutritious.

So, this year I have bought myself a LRD (Little Red Dress) from Mango.
But…having tried it on, I feel a bit lumpy! Oh No!
So, this year’s Christmas challenge is to fit nicely into the LRD in time for Christmas Eve drinks! How am I going to do this, you ask? Well, no silly ‘starve yourself’ diets, no juice cleanses or fasting days for me! Just honest, good, healthy food and plenty of exercise. A nice fake tan and some bloody good shoes will also help;-)
I love winter vegetables, nothing beats a brussel sprout in my eyes! So mealtimes will be packed with vegetables, steamed, boiled, sauteed and roasted! Meat also comes into it’s own at Christmas time, so turkey, chicken, beef and pork will all feature on my weekly menus, with a nice roasted breast or medium-rare steak my particular favourites.
In terms of exercise, now I’m back at work part time and have a nearly 6 month old baby, exercise will be done whenever and wherever possible. I’ll be doing long walks/jogs around the park with the pushchair, gym visits on a weekend when Daddy has the baby, and even making sure I get out from behind the desk at lunchtime and go for a walk, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. I have also a number of exercise workouts on Sky+ that I can do if I have a spare 30 minutes.
Now that we’ve started weaning the baby, it’s going to be easier to ensure that we have some vegetables with every meal, as she will be eating finger foods of them for her tea! It’s also really important that I set a good example for her, and don’t let her see me binge like I am prone to (not in any way as a food illness, just as a greedy beast!) and instead enjoy treats occasionally, without eating a whole family size packet of crisps or bar of chocolate!

Christmas is just 19 days away and this year I will be cooking Christmas Dinner for my hubby, sister and mum and a few friends. Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing with you some of my favourite Christmas recipes and edible gifts.

These delicious treats are very satisfying, especially when eaten warm! But if you are giving them as a gift they do not lose any flavour or niceness when cold! Plus, major bonus…They are so easy to make and literally take about 20 minutes from start to finish!

With Christmas just around the corner I have the PERFECT Christmas Cocktail to tickle your taste buds.
Introducing The Pomfizz…
Recipe (for one cocktail):
25ml Gin (I use Gordons)
50ml Pomegranate juice (don’t get a juice with loads of extra sugar in, try as natural and pure as possible)
50ml Martini Rosato
Prosecco or Champagne to top up
Put the gin and martini into a champagne glass and then add the pomegranate juice
Add the crushed ice so that all of the liquid is covered
Top up the glass with the fizz!
NB. This is also perfect as a pitcher drink. Just multiply the ingredients by the number of poeple you are making the cocktail for.
In your jug add the gin, Martini and juice. Top up with champagne or prosecco. Put the crushed ice into individual glasses and pour the cocktail over the ice to serve.
Today marks the first day of my 6 week body attack which will tone me up in time for Christmas and get me back into the right frame of mind to carry on with my healthiness after the New Year’s Eve hangover ends.
It also helps that my hubby is working abroad for these 6 weeks (even though I miss him loads!) but it does mean that I can really tailor my diet to suit my taste buds and my attack!
With winter really setting in (-2 degrees this morning argh!) I am craving warm foods which can make it difficult to find satisfying meals that can be made at work. I plan on making chicken noodle broth and vegetable broth regularly and then taking this into work as it can be re-heated in the microwave. Pasta dishes are great for this too. I am also really going to try and get more protein into my diet as I have been lacking it recently – the problem is just that meat is just so expensive!
Exercise is going to be another area to focus on, and since I will be going home to an empty house, going to the gym more regularly will not feel too bad. Upping my cardio and focusing on toning my arms, back and stomach will be the priority.
Is anyone else planning a Christmas dress diet?
So with 66 days to go until my Christmas Party (and the target date of -21lb loss) I have 18lb to go.
If I keep an average of -2lb per week I will hit my target, and hopefully I might reach -3lb loss some weeks which would be great if I had a bad week!
I know I keep saying “right, I will properly start now”…but today I really mean it! I am going to the gym tonight and I will be having no starchy carbohydrates for my tea, just chicken salad.
I will then be gym-ning it on Thursday and Friday combined with healthy eating.
Speaking of eating…I know reports come out all the time saying that we should shun cereal but I have found a delicious apple and raspberry Alpen muesli which is tasty without milk! (I don’t like soggy food so I have my cereal dry-this is the only muesli I have tasted which is great dry!)
